The NBA and FIBA will attempt to bring a professional basketball league to the continent of Africa.

According to ESPN, the Basketball Africa League will be a collaboration between the NBA and FIBA, the organization that sanctions basketball play around the world. The league plans on beginning play sometime in 2020, with qualification matches set to begin later this year. The league will feature 12 teams from countries like Angola, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.

The NBA has a rich history in Africa, with more than 80 current and former players either coming to the league straight from African nations or having direct family ties to countries on the continent. Two of the most famous players to come out of African nations are Hall Of Famers Dikembe Mutombo (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and Hakeem Olajuwon (Nigeria).
