In a statement from the NBPA’s executive director Michele Roberts, the organization “stands with” Dallas Mavericks’ forward Kristaps Porzingis after allegations surfaced earlier in the week accusing the superstar of raping a women during his time with the New York Knicks. Roberts also mentioned that the NBPA has been aware of the allegations “for some time.” The NBPA’s official statement went on to say this:

“(We) have evaluated the accusers claim and, based on what is presently before us, stand with Kristaps.”

The allegations first surfaced on Thursday afternoon when a unnamed woman came forward to the New York Police Department and reported that basketball star Kristaps Porzingis had raped her in his luxury penthouse in Manhattan. The encounter reportedly happened just hours after Porzingis had suffered a devastating knee injury in Madison Square Garden.

One source close to the matter reported that the woman was “believable”, even though she first reported the alleged rape about a year after the supposed encounter occurred. The same source also said that the woman told police that she had discussed getting $68,000 in hush money from the famed basketball player.

Porzingis, now a member of the Dallas Mavericks, denies the allegations profusely. According to multiple sources, the Knicks informed the Mavericks of the incident before trading him to the team back in late January.
