According to multiple reports, free agent superstar Jimmy Butler is garnering interest from the Houston Rockets and is expected to be “aggressively” pursued by the organization during the NBA’s free agency period. After being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers just before the mid-season deadline, Butler averaged 18.2 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game, and 4.0 assists per game while shooting about 46.1% percent from the field. If Butler decides not to rejoin the 76ers on a new contract, the Rockets could be a viable option for the 29-year-old. While their is no word yet on what a potential deal could look like, Rockets’ GM Daryl Morey has been very vocal about his goal to acquire another superstar, which he believes will help get the Rockets over the Western Conference Finals-hump.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Philadelphia 76ers’ star Joel Embiid will be available to play against the Nets on Saturday. It was originally reported earlier in the week that the superstar would likely miss game 1 of their opening series versus the Nets due to knee soreness.
Late Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Philadelphia 76ers engaged in a blockbuster trade which sent Tobias Harris, Mike Scott, and Boban Marjanovic to Philly in exchange for Landry Shamet, Wilson Chandler, Mike Muscala, a 2020 first-rounder, an unprotected first-rounder via the Miami Heat, and two second round picks.
The two second round picks acquired by the Clippers are for the 2021 draft and 2023 draft. Harris will be a free-agent this summer, but reports are surfacing saying that the 76ers have a plan to keep Harris, Butler, Joel Embiid, and Ben Simmons together for the foreseeable future.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Markelle Fultz may not be in the 76ers’ long-term plans and the team may look to move him sometime soon.
Fultz has struggled with shooting issues since he entered the league in the 2017-2018 season, issues which he claims are due to shoulder injuries among other things. In the last few weeks, rumors have seemingly been circulating around the league about the possibility of the 76ers moving on from the sophomore guard.
While the 76ers may want to move him quickly, his trade value is reportedly dropping day by day. Markelle’s agent insists that he has not requested to have a fresh start with a new team and remains commited to the franchise.
According to Fultz’s agent, he will be visiting with a shoulder specialist within the week to look further into his issues which keep him from preforming at his best on the court.
Philadelphia 76ers guard Jerryd Bayless is set to miss significant time due to a left-knee sprain suffered during a team practice. The 76ers also announced that he will begin rehab and training immediately. The injury is expected to keep the veteran guard off the court for 3-4 weeks at the most.
According to multiple reports, Philadelphia 76ers’ rookie Zhaire Smith suffered a serious foot injury on Monday and is currently being transferred to Philadelphia where the team will further assess the extent of his injury.
